Happy Friday!

Another busy week at IST! The JS/MS open house last night was a success and on Wednesday the Middle School Chinese class had a famous Taiwanese “Youtuber” come to visit the class and do a segment on “kids reacting to Taiwanese snacks”. The kids had lots of fun and when the video is posted I will share it with you.

For the past month the middle schoolers have been competing in the Kidstruction 2021 Architecture Design Competition (https://kidstruction-kidsbuild.com/). Using only business cards, toothpicks and glue, students had to design and build a “Post-Pandemic structure”.  At last Saturday’s awards ceremony we won first place in one of 5 categories: Residential.  Students Bintou Drame, Rochelle Lauzon, Scout Noli, and Yuzuki Espinosa were the members of the winning team. Congratulations to our awesome science teacher Ms. Milani and all of our students who participated!
Celebrating Mr. Moussa Drame
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, we will be celebrating Mr. Moussa Drame’s 15th year anniversary as a teacher at the International School of Tucson. Mr. Drame came to IST in October of 2006 as a preschool French teacher and has had an incredible impact on hundreds of students during that time. When Mr. Drame is not at IST or with his family, he works weekly with people with disabilities through the Easter Seals Blake Foundation at a home care facility here in Tucson.

Mr. Drame has a deep love for Mexican culture and we will have a Mariachi band here at lunch time for the children and him to celebrate on Wednesday, 10/6.

In lieu of gifts for Mr. Drame, we are (secretly) asking anyone who has been impacted by Mr. Drame to make a donation to the non-profit organization he has founded – Bright Horizons. The mission of this organization is to improve the lives of people in need in Cote d’Ivoire (West Africa). Primarily, the organization focuses on providing wheelchairs to people with disabilities. One wheel chair in Cote d’Ivoire is $300. In addition, the organization seeks other ways to improve the lives of people in need, such as, but not limited to, providing training and education for individuals or groups of people, providing medical funding and resources to individuals or hospitals, and providing funding, other resources to improve the circumstances of individuals and groups of people in need.

You can read more about it here as well as make your donation here: https://www.brighthorizonsofnanan.org/

You can also write a check (made out to Bright Horizons) or bring cash directly to Jessica Palma who will present him with it all on Wednesday. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jessica directly.
