Character and Leadership development
At the International School of Tucson, our focus is on the whole child as an individual. While we emphasize language and academics, social-emotional growth and physical development are just as important in the education of our children. Our curricula are child centered and inquiry based. We encourage our students to explore the world around them not only through books, but also through hands-on activities and real life events.
During Junior School, students learn about themselves as growing and changing individuals with their own experiences and ideas, and as members of their communities. They become more mature, independent and self-confident with teamwork and Leadership as essential aspects of everyday school. They learn about the wider world and the interdependence of communities within it through integrated curricular in languages, sciences, history and geography.
As they approach Grade 5 and the Middle school this integration becomes more relevant as they begin the curriculum based delivery of Character and Leadership development. The Program is through the UK Teaching Future Leaders program and is well proven and offers a social and emotional development of the individual. Students learn the differing attributes of what makes a leader and how to implement those tools and skills. It is a practical hands on program tracked against a development based assessment criteria.
